Predict individual risk of end-stage kidney disease
requiring kidney replacement therapy
We present a calculator for estimating the individual risk of progressing to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) requiring dialysis or renal transplantation within one, two, three, or four years.
We implemented two risk equations that are based on routine laboratory parameters only and had been developed based on 4,915 participants of the German Chronic Kidney Disease (GCKD) study.
The 14-variable risk equation showed the best performance in an internal validation, whereas the 6-variable risk equation is easily implementable in routine clinical care and showed its superior performance in comparison to the kidney failure risk equation by Tangri et al. in three independent, international validation cohorts.
